The majority of South Australians live in and around Adelaide, a calm, civilised city with a multicultural population of around 1.3 million. It鈥檚 a scenic place, sitting on the banks of the River Torrens with grand stone buildings surrounded by parklands, and prides itself on offering all the conveniences of a major city with few of the stresses. Nicknamed 鈥榯he 20 minute city鈥 because it鈥檚 so easy to navigate that no journey should take more than 20 minutes, Adelaide is a relaxed place to live and consistently more affordable than other Australian cities.
Adelaide has a strong cultural life and hosts the Adelaide Festival of the Arts and the Adelaide Fringe Festival each year, among many other events. It also has a thriving bar, restaurant and caf茅 scene. The climate encourages an outdoor lifestyle 鈥 try scuba diving, surfing or swimming at the beach, or walking in the nearby Mount Lofty Ranges.
If that all sounds a bit energetic, you could try watching cricket at the Adelaide Oval or taking a leisurely stroll around some of the great wineries in the McLaren Vale or Barossa Valley.
